Lie Down in the Temple & Sleep
(2011)
oil on canvas
Following the original Surrealist pursuit of expressing the uncovered psyche, ‘Lie Down in The Temple & Sleep’ refers to the Hebrew prophet Samuel who would “lie down an
d
sleep in the temple at Shiloh before the Ark and receive the word of
the Lord.” Illustrating the connection Ancient Hebrews held between
dreams and religion; and their belief that incubating dreams would
deliver divine inspiration.
